‘Forests for Life’ highlighting issues like Sacred Groves, Afforestation and Conservation efforts, Eco-development, Joint Forest Management Deforestation, Desertification, Urban, Rural, Community as well as individual initiatives in Forest Conservation etc.

Each year the festival selects a single aspect of nature for taking a closer look and understanding. In 2003 it was "Water for Life".

Silent Valley in the southern Indian state of Kerala is a symbol of conservation in India and the first victory of the conservation movement in the country. As a commemoration of 25 years of Save Silent Valley Campaign and the 20th year of the Declaration of Silent Valley as a National Park, Vatavaran has chosen the theme of the 2005 Festival as "Forests for Life".
