Subject Focus: Impact of exploitation of Natural Resources on the Orion Tribe.

Summary: The Fire Within draws a painful portrait of the transformation of the land of the ‘Tana Bhagats’, a sect of the Oraon Tribe who were believers of non-violence and Gandhian Philosophy, to the land enduring the violent Naxalite (under ground Maoist Guerilla) movement today. At the same time, it talks about the corruption, mafia, energy politics, displacement, issue of tribal identity in the area where coal mining is continuing from last 150 years.

Producer’s/Director’s Profile: Mr. Shriprakash’s has been associated with filmmaking for over a decade. During this phase he has worked in the capacity of cameraman, director, as well as, scriptwriter. His film Buddha Weeps in Jadugoda, has won the Grand Prize in the Earth Vision Film Festival, Tokyo, 2000; Best Film Award in the Thunder Bird Film Festival, USA, 2001; Film South Asia-Kathmandu-1999; Vermont Film Festival, USA 2001.
