CMS VATAVARAN 2006- 2nd Environment and Wildlife Travelling Film Festival

Kashmir CMS Vatavaran 2006
Environment and Wildlife Traveling Film Festival

22-23 September 2006, Sher-e-Kashmir International Conference Centre, Kashmir

Agar firdaus bar roo-e zameen ast, Hameen ast-o hameen ast-o hameen ast.
(If there is paradise on face of the earth, It is this, it is this, it is this)

A couplet often used so aptly to describe Kashmir is alas fast becoming a thing of the past. Known universally for its rich natural environment, the entire state of Jammu & Kashmir and particularly Valley of Kashmir is witnessing significant deterioration in the eco-system because of improper environmental understanding and indifferent human attitude. The pace at which the environmental degradation is taking place is truly alarming.

The first and most important thing in thE gloomy scenario WAS to make people aware. Aware of their lost wealth; aware of the ramifications of blatant abuse of natural resources; aware of their duties and above all aware of their capabilities to herald change and act. The film festival comes handy---as the most effective medium-----to generate momentum, to break the monotony of inaction and to bring change.

CMS organized Kashmir CMS Vatavaran 2006 at the Sher-e-Kashmir International Conference Centre. Slated for 22-23 September 2006, the festival included a series of film shows, expert talks, knowledge symposia, photo exhibitions and a chain of activities for the school children and college students apart from general public.

Kashmir CMS VATAVARAN 2006 highlighted the environmental degradation and the inter-linkages between environment and economy. This was also the reason why CMS decided to have deliberations on the thematic concern: "Using State's Ecology To Make It A Self-Sufficient Economy".

The Kashmir CMS VATAVARAN 2006 had essence of a true local event with several city-based organizations joining forces with CMS. The key associates are Global Green Peace - Kashmir, the co-organiser, the University of Kashmir was the Knowledge Partner. Greater Kashmir was the print Media Partner.

Actionaid International - Kashmir unit was one of the supporters and is putting up a photo exhibition on environment. INTACH's Jammu & Kashmir Chapter and Helpage too will put up exhibitions.
